Disposal instructions
Disposal of used lamps
The new EU directive also covers luminaires (with the exception of domestic luminaires), fluorescent lamps, compact fluorescent lamps, discharge lamps including high-pressure sodium vapour lamps, metal halide lamps and low-pressure sodium vapour lamps. Starters, control gear and LEDs are regarded as luminaire components and as such are part of the luminaire disposal system.
All manufacturers must register with the national WEEE register. Goods from unregistered manufacturers may no longer be sold after 24 November 2005. All consumers (commercial and private) are obliged to dispose of old lamps separately. Collection centres are available for this purpose. Consumers do not need to sort their old lamps by manufacturer or product age before disposal. Lamps from private households and businesses can be disposed of at municipal recycling centres. Large quantities of lamps can be disposed of directly via take-e-way. Incandescent lamps and halogen lamps do not contain any environmentally relevant substances and may continue to be disposed of with household waste. Discharge lamps are fragile and contain special substances and must be disposed of with particular care. For this reason, lamps are also collected separately – rod-shaped fluorescent lamps in so-called stanchion pallets, all other lamps in mesh boxes.
Fulfilment of the manufacturer information obligation under the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG)
We offer a sustainable service with take-e-way! Simply fill in the form on the take-e-way page and they will organise the collection. By doing so, you help to conserve important resources, as up to 90 per cent of the components of old lamps can be recycled. The crossed-out wheelie bin symbol on electrical and electronic appliances indicates that the appliance in question must not be disposed of with household waste at the end of its service life. Check whether the electrical or electronic appliance can be reused, repaired, sold or given away to avoid waste.
If disposal is necessary, hand in the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) at a municipal collection point or at larger shops with a range of electrical and electronic equipment in bricks-and-mortar stores or via online retailers. If the WEEE contains personal data, please delete the data before handing it in.
