The Comeback of a Classic
The initial spark for the development of the first Bergmeister light fixture was the city of Ingolstadt’s desire for custom street lights. After a period of sterile urban functionality in the 1960s and 1970s, the city was once again searching for its own identity.
Light Fixture with Tradition
The founder of the lighting manufacturer, Manfred Bergmeister, researched the development of his first light fixture in the attic of the German Museum in Munich, studying the functions and forms of historical street lamps. During his research, he came across works by the architect, artist, and industrial designer Peter Behrens. Inspired by these design standards, Bergmeister created the Ingolstadt model, which later served as a source of inspiration for subsequent models, such as the classic Rosenheim fixture. To this day, these classics continue to be used repeatedly.
Secret of Success
The light fixture, shown here as a wall-mounted version, is one of the first creations from the Bergmeister lighting manufacturer. Its success remains unbroken even after 30 years. While we can only speculate about the reasons for this success, the strength and clarity of the blacksmithing craftsmanship are evident, particularly in the simple embrace of the shade.
Retrofitting to LED Modules
We still celebrate every Ingolstadt series light fixture that leaves our workshop, as it is intrinsically linked to our company’s identity. Therefore, the Ingolstadt model was also the first fixture to be equipped with an interchangeable LED module, ensuring it is ready for the future.
