Oberschleißheim: Light Installation in Public Space
“Topoi of Joy” is the light installation by Rainer Gottemeier at the Bürgerplatz in Oberschleißheim. Twelve circular painted aluminum discs adorn the underside of the 25 x 9 meter market roof. Various dot patterns can be seen on the cylinders. “The guiding idea of this topographical Gesamtkunstwerk in the public space of Oberschleißheim is to visualize the interplay of many individual locations within the urban space, creating a poetic structure that fosters identity,” says the artist. As a total composition, the light point grid on the plates forms the city map of Oberschleißheim—simultaneously suggesting a starry sky.

LED Spots Behind Cut-Out Holes
The cylinders were custom-cut with holes according to the specifications of the light artist by Bergmeister Leuchten, which are backlit. Larger holes feature LED spots positioned at various locations depending on the plate. These spots can be individually controlled via DALI, allowing them to create highlights and animated dynamic effects. The remaining smaller holes emit diffuse light. To elevate the fixture from the ceiling and create a floating impression, an LED strip is integrated at the top of the housing, indirectly illuminating the light bodies.

Horizontal Light Point Band in the Attic
The front of the market roof in Oberschleißheim is framed with a horizontal light point band. Through colored PMMA panels, the warm white light creates a colorful effect with an impressive distant impact.
