Urban Code in illumination
The ten-meter-tall light pillars at Lindeplein (Square by the Lake) in the Dutch city of Brunssum stand out prominently—this former coal town yearns for light and color. The new luminaires transform the square into an impressive scene. The coal pattern on the pillars shimmers with different color compositions: sometimes red, sometimes green, sometimes blue.
Illumination concept “New Energy”
The luminaires developed and constructed by Bergmeister Leuchten reflect the historical mining tradition of the former coal town of Brunssum and capture its urban code. The steles are part of the illumination concept “New Energy,” created by the lighting design firm Studio DL. With the redesign of Lindeplein into a city terrace and the colorful square illumination, the city has gained a representative space while simultaneously reclaiming its tradition-based identity.
Pillars with Intelligent Light Design
The custom-designed ornamental pillars by Bergmeister Leuchten frame the square and envelop it in atmospheric light. The laser-cut coal ornaments on the aluminum panels at the front, combined with a mirrored plate inside the pillar, create an unusual transparency and a wonderful illusion of depth. Side-mounted LED profiles convey a special effect depending on the time of day or night, enhancing the overall impact. The integrated DMX control system in the base allows for the activation of individual lighting scenarios. Kevlar cables connect the six special light pillars and serve as anchors for eight RGB pendant luminaires. Depending on the color composition, the structure suggests a starry sky or the charm of a cozy gazebo.
